Kelsie Sibbald (she/her) is a master’s student in the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources at University of Wyoming. She is studying Environment and Natural Resources & Society and is working with Dr. Curt Davidson as a graduate research assistant. She will work to help expand the Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management program at UW and recreation across the state of Wyoming. Kelsie graduated with a B.S. in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management with a minor in Environmental Studies from Northern Michigan University. Her time there included competing on the track and field team and later transitioned to club involvement. Doing this, she led students on backpacking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing trips and played a role in expanding outdoor recreation access and inclusion for students at the university.
Kelsie has three years of experience as a wildland firefighter with the US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management as well as working in wilderness/trails. She was raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her three siblings. She moved to Buffalo, Wyoming in 2022, enjoying the western landscapes with her partner, Connor, and two English Setters, Chip and Jane. Some of her favorite ways to spend free time include powerlifting, mountain biking, xc skiing, cooking, and implementing sustainable living through homesteading.
Kelsie’s scholarly interests include observing the role of outdoor recreation in influencing environmental attitudes and behaviors. Specifically, she is exploring how place attachment and theory of planned behavior can be applied to recreation-conservation land management models.
